1. Purchase a new ink jet cartridge from a local retail location. As with other industries, when you wait to make a purchase when you need the product, you will usually pay a premium price. Retail stores are there for convenience, and offer you the maximum price for the ease.

2. Refill your existing ink jet cartridges. Many retail stores are offering this option. You simply bring in your existing cartridges, and refill them with the appropriate ink color. This still offers you the convenience of immediate purchase, but it can also be messy.

3. Purchase recycled ink jet cartridges. Recycling your ink jet cartridge allows you to save up to 70 percent off the retail price, and provides you with a way of keeping the cartridge out of the landfills. Recycling does take more time, and isn’t an instant process, but the savings makes it worth it.

With recycling, most companies offer you the ability to mail in your cartridges to a company location. The company will refurbish the cartridge, refill it, and send it back to your location. The process can take anywhere from a few days to a couple of days, depending on the mail and your location.

The best way to stay prepared for printing emergencies is to have two cartridges in place within your office system. When one cartridge runs out of ink, you send it in, and have a spare ready for printing.

Compatible Ink Cartridges,Toner – are they a Money saver ?

Have you ever walked out of the local store with some expensive ink cartridges? Perhaps you are wondering why on earth the ink cartridges are so costly. In fact, most people spend many times the price of the printer on ink cartridges alone. This is no surprise if you understand how the printer industry works. Due to the competitive price of printers they are generally sold at below cost price with the idea of recouping generous profits by selling their own brand of ink cartridges at highly inflated prices. I am often astounded when I see people at the local shops  paying big dollars for ink cartridges. 

If you had asked me about compatible ink cartridges 5 years ago the answer I would have given would have been NO they are a poor quality alternative.

I guess that many of us were introduced to the generic alternative ink cartridges and refill kits through Calidad as they dominated the industry years ago.

Times have changed however and Calidad have been left at the post. The modern compatible ink cartridges coming out of China nowadays are far superior in EVERY aspect.

It is interesting to note that sometimes, printer manufacturers attempt to scare consumers into thinking that the warranty may be void if compatible ink cartridges are used. This is a defensive tactic to help protect their market share. Legally speaking, the warranty cannot be voided just because a compatible ink cartridge has been used. That is because, by law, as the owner of the printer, you are pretty much free to do what you want with it.

Compatible Toner cartridges are also great value nowadays and if you run a small business and do considerable printing then you should seriously consider making the change.

I guess as with purchasing any product do your homework first. Read reviews on websites before making a purchase as this certainly helps to give you an indication of other customers ideas.

The HP LaserJet 1100 is a great printer due to its small footprint, inexpensive cartridges, and relatively easy install process on Windows machines. These features have caused many consumers to question why an upgrade to a different printer is needed. If you can overcome some minor flaws with the printer, the HP 1100 should last a really long time.

As a technician, I’ve come across two main concerns with the 1100 series. First, the strange port on the back is called mini-centronics and many people don’t know where to find the proper connector to it. Next, this printer’s paper is gravity feed so it moves in a downward motion for printing. This type of paper feeding caused a problem with the separation pad and many HP 1100’s developed an issue where more than one piece of paper would feed through the printer at once. One of the more popular printers manufactured by Hewlett Packard is the Laser Jet 1200. With its a sleek exterior, designed print speeds of 15 ppm (pages per minute) and resolution of 1200 dpi, the laser printer is a one tough machine. But what makes this laser printer particularly appealing to consumers is its budget price tag that ranges from between $100 to $200.
