How long after the expiration date are HP ink cartridges usable for?

May 8th, 2012 3 comments

I have a few HP ink cartridges that have expired in December 2005, August 2007, and October 2007. Are these still usuable? Please let me know! Thank you!

That depends upon the style of ink cartridge.

For older HP’s like a 26, 33, 29, or 20 (6614) the will actually "explode" not long after their expiration date (by explode i mean the bags over inflate forcing a large quantity of ink out) this destroys the electronic strip and makes a terrible mess.

For block style HP cartridges (anything small and square) it won’t make a difference, the expiration date is just a gauge of when HP guarantees the cartridge for resale.

As for the the large ink tank style HP, #10, #11, #14 and #88’s the expiration date is a stop date. They will not work beyond this date.

Information Regarding Hp Ink 60

Using an HP 60 ink cartridge is a fairly straightforward process. To gain a better understanding of how they work, it may be helpful to learn a bit about how inkjet printers work in general. A typical inkjet printer consists of a variety of electrical components. The first and foremost important component is the print head assembly. The print head assembly contains a printer head which uses a series of nozzles to spray droplets of ink onto the printer paper.

The print head gets its ink from ink cartridges connected to it, which are basically reservoirs of ink that contain various colors of ink. Some manufacturers combine the various color reservoirs into one cartridge, while others build separate cartridges so that individual colors may be replaced one at a time. Some cartridges even include the head itself. These components, whether separate or built together into one unit, are controlled by a print head stepper motor. The stepper motor is what moves the print-head assembly back and as the head delivers ink to the printer paper.

Inkjet printers are becoming the most popular home computer printers. In contrast to a laser printer, which uses high heat to fuse powdered ink to a material like paper, an inkjet printer sprays a fine pattern of liquid ink. Without the need for heat, an inkjet printer can print on a far wider range of materials, from the delicate to the metallic. The primary quality of these materials must be their ability to absorb and hold an inked image without bleeding or spreading.

Inkjet paper is designed especially for inkjet printers. Like any paper, its many varieties are generally classified by weight, brightness, texture, and opacity. Basic inkjet office paper weight ranges from 21 to 27 lbs, and is most suitable for printing text. The amount of ink required to print a photo, however, can soak and buckle these lightweight papers. Photo paper is heavy and very opaque, even to the point where it can be printed on both sides without the images showing through.

Many people that travel to The Friendly Isle for traditional Maui weddings know that drinking from the coconut is usually part of the ceremony, but many may not realize the impact this fruit has had on the Islands. Called Niu in Hawaiian, the coconut is one of the reasons that the Polynesians were able to colonize Hawaii.

Niu has been mentioned as far back as 4th century BC, described in Sanskrit and appearing in Indian paintings and rituals. It was taken by traders and travelers from the northern part of India to the southern half and today the coconut tree is still sacred to Indians. Early Polynesian voyagers brought coconuts to Hawaii when they colonized it and the palm made itself at home in the sandy soil.
