How do I get a driver for my old HP Deskjet 660C printer to work fine with Win XP?

December 30th, 2012 3 comments

I need a driver for my Hewlett Packard Deskjet 660C Printer that can work vey well with my Win XP system.

There is no need to download a printer driver from the Web. The drivers for HP Deskjet printers are included in Windows XP.
The following instructions are for installing the basic driver that is preloaded on Windows XP. This document describes how to load the appropriate printer driver that is pre-installed in your Windows XP operating system. The preinstalled Windows XP driver supports basic printing features.
This document only addresses the Windows XP operating system.
Step one: Check to see if the printer driver is already installed
To find out if printer is already installed, do the following:
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes.
Check to see if the name of your printer shows next to a printer icon.
If the printer is there, you are done. The best printer driver is already installed. Proceed to Step four : Set the HP Deskjet driver as the default driver.
If the printer is not there, proceed to Step two : Connect the cables.
Step two: Connect the cables
With the computer and printer on, connect the USB or parallel cable to the printer and the computer. One of two things could happen:
The driver automatically installs when the printer is connected to the computer. Several small dialogue boxes will appear showing the progress of the driver installation. When the installation is finished, a message displays stating that the printer is installed and ready to use. You are done. The best printer driver available for your printer is installed. Proceed to Step four: Set the HP Deskjet driver as the default driver.
If the Found New Hardware Wizard displays, click Cancel and proceed to Step three.
Step three: Manually install the printer driver
Click Start, then Control Panel.
Click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes.
In Printer Tasks, click Add a printer.
Click Next.
Select Local, then remove the check mark from Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer.
Click Next.
Select Port
Parallel connection is usually LPT1
USB connection is usually USB001
Click Next.
Select HP from the Manufacturer list.
Select the printer model from the printer list, and then click Next.
Select Yes if this printer is the default printer, or select No if it is not.
Click Next to continue.
Select No to skip the test page, and then click Next.
Click Finish to complete the installation.
NOTE: If prompted for a Windows disk in Step 12, do not use the disk that came with the printer, use the Windows XP disk or the recovery disk that came with the computer.

If prompted for a Windows disk, insert the appropriate Windows or PC Recovery disk (not the disk that came with the printer) and follow the instructions on the screen. Once the driver has been installed, it will be listed in the Printers window ( Start, then Printers and Faxes).
Step four: Set the HP Deskjet driver as the default driver
Once you’ve installed the new HP driver, set it as the default printer.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes.
Right-click the HP Deskjet driver then select Set as Default Printer.

Will a different kind of ink be compatible?

December 28th, 2012 1 comment

I have a HP 845c deskjet printer. The printer takes a 15 black ink cartage and a 17 tri-color cartage. However, this 17 cartage cannot be found in stores. You can find a 15 black 78 tri-color joint package at the local businesses. Would this 78 tri-color cartage be compatible for my 17 ink cartage.

The 78 and 17 are not cross compatible.

However the good news is that Number 17 cartridges are very easy to find in a remanufactured brand.
The 17 can also be refilled fairly easily.

It is a great printer to hold onto, as far as I know HP is still making the number 17 cartridges, however they are very old printers and not very common so the cartridge will be difficult to find.

How to use Hp deskjet printer like Laser Printer?

December 26th, 2012 1 comment

when Deskjet printer compare with laser printer – black & white print out very poor. if any one have ideas & tips Plz tell me….

If you have a HP deskjet then I am suprised that the B&W output is very poor.
The text quality of HPs in normally very good – much better than Canon or Epson for example.
Maybe you have the print setting on "draft" instead of "normal".
"Draft" uses only half the ink and prints very quickly/roughly – just for a draft copy – not for final output copy.

Another possiblilty is that you are using very soft/cheap paper. If the paper is too low quality then the ink soaks in too much – creating a blurred effect. Get some proper inkjet paper – it need not cost very much more than standard copier paper.

How do I make my Printer?

December 24th, 2012 1 comment

I have a HP 5440 Deskjet printer. As of late the print on the page is very small. I have tried several different ways to in large the printed text. Also it only seems to print small when I am trying to print a news article or comment from Yahoo or Facebook. If I print e-mail letters the size of the print is fine. Hope some one can help.

The most often cause of small print usually occurs when a new monitor is hooked up or the screen resolution is changed to a higher setting. The higher resolution affects the on-screen print size and carries over to how it prints out as well.

The following is for use with Internet Explorer 7, but may be the same or similar for other versions or web browsers.

For emails or general web pages, one way is to highlight the area of print you want printed, Right click on the highlighted area, or go to menu bar at top and select “File”, then click on “Print preview”. You can also just right click on the page and choose Print Preview, or go to your menu bar at the top of your web browser, click on "File" then "Print Preview”, without highlighting everything.

Find the drop down box "As laid out on screen" and change to "As selected on screen", this should make a big difference as to what you see will be printed out, but if you still need to change it further, then change the “Shrink to fit” setting to change it to increase or reduce the image size that you want to use, something like 90% (there is a custom option at the bottom of the list if you need to set something unique in between what’s listed) and see how it changes the print size of what is to be printed out and choose a percentage that looks and works best for you without cutting off text/image somewhere. This will make it larger or smaller when printed out as seen on the preview print window depending on what you choose.

Another way that usually works to make the print larger when printing internet stuff & emails is by changing the view size on the screen to a larger size in your web browser (this is separate from your other setting you’ve already setup). Go to the menu bar at the top (i.e. Internet Explorer), click on "View," then "Text Size" then select a size like "Larger" or "Largest" (something higher than what you’re currently set to.)

Sometimes adjusting the current window’s magnification (lower right corner of screen or Ctrl button + scroll wheel on mouse) can have an affect on print size.

The only other method is to copy & paste the text into a text editing software like Word and adjust the text size there. If you’re using a text program, then you simply adjust the size of the text to a 12 or 14 point, or larger, font size (adjust depending on the font and size you need) and that should do the trick.

Is it better to buy a genuine HP 22 cartridge or a compatible?

December 21st, 2012 13 comments

I’ve got an HP Deskjet printer that gets a lot of use. While most of what I print is standard black text, I also like to print photos in colour rather than pay to get them developed. So should I buy the more expensive OEM product or save money with a compatible cartridge?

I always use the printers recommended inks that are genuine no risk of damaging the printer then

What’s the best type of business cards to buy for the HP Deskjet D1420?

December 18th, 2012 1 comment

I need to know what kind of business cards work best for a HP Deskjet printer. Does it matter if the cards are glossy or matte? Also, if I choose to do glossy cards, should I use a laserjet type printer?

Use inkjet printable business cards and it does not matter which type as long as they are designed for use in INKJET printers.

How to turn the color back on, on hp deskjet 3050 printer?

December 16th, 2012 1 comment

I have an hp deskjet 3050 printer/scanner/ copy

A couple weeks ago I found a way to print in grey and now when I need to print in color I cannot find the way to change the setting. I have gone in printer properties and see nothing for this.
i do not see any option for color, black and white or grey

In the printer properties, you have either ‘grayscale’ or ‘black and white’ checked. Remove that check mark, choose apply, and ok.

December 14th, 2012 2 comments

I have an HP 6620 Deskjet printer. I’m printing from a MacBook with OS X. My printer has a constantly flashing Cartridge Status light and will not print, giving a "Pen Failure" message in response to the Print command. Is there a way to resolve this without paying a technician for service?

dear sir,
if there are two cartridges one black and one color . try installing one cartridge at a time the cartridge which has flashing light is bad change the cartridge.
